Contemporary Christmas

Italian-style tables, a desire for lightness and light-heartedness and... lots of colour (preferably red!). Christmas 2021 will deal with the effects of the increase in the price of goods from Asia, giving greater prominence to local products, territories and the special features of Italian production districts.

New scenarios and new strategies are emerging in this post-globalisation era. Companies are seeking closer distribution partners in preference to increasingly expensive foreign suppliers.

In fact, increases in the cost of raw materials and energy are the main culprits behind the price rises expected for Christmas 2021. According to Codacons, Italians will spend 7.5 billion Euro on Christmas gifts and home decorations. “An item that could undergo average price increases of +5% due to the combined effect of higher product transport costs and the crisis in raw materials that has led to significant price increases for parts (think of the electronics and hi-tech sector)...” Just to give an example, “in recent days, the producers of panettone have spoken of a +20% price increase of their products”, Codacons stresses. Not to mention that fish, meat and cold cuts will increase by 2.5% and pasta and bread by +10%...

The focus is on local products, on the promotion of territories and Italian and European craftsmanship. Christmas 2021 reconfirms the desire to spend time together as a family, enjoying the playful aspects of the festivities in a light-hearted way, under the banner of creativity, imagination and Italian style.

Red, the Christmas colour par excellence, will be confirmed as the main feature and symbol of passion, transgression, joy and instinctiveness.

The tricolour is completed by the reassuring presence of green trees and nature and, of course, by the white of snow. Gold still holds a place of honour, the eternal common thread running through tastes and styles.
