Environment and sustainability: the new ethics of the home

The evolution of products and services dedicated to everyday life, to the living and inhabited setting involves respect for the environment and sustainability. After all, home comfort and new lifestyles cannot ignore the principles of circular economy, eco-friendly design, sustainable materials and durability.

Awareness of environmental issues and attention to the future of the planet encourages research of new materials, products and functions. At HOMI, many companies demonstrated their commitment to this by presenting furnishings, accessories and projects for a truly human-scale home. The focus is on materials, textiles, technologies and production processes: including natural textiles with properties beneficial to the environment and mankind, recycled and recyclable plastics, projects promoting micro-mobility, wireless devices, vegetable paintings and bluetooth speakers made of 100% recyclable cardboard.

Circular thinking

With Tera®, TeraPlast promotes a responsible project geared towards the ethics of the circular economy, with the aim of giving new life to plastic, making it a "forever reusable" resource. The Tera® Manifesto states: “To us, design is not just about designing a shape, it is a way of thinking and conceiving our products so that they are not only functional and beautiful, but also accessible to everyone and, above all, sustainable in the materials we find in large quantities. Let's make the most of what we have.”

Hemp

TESSITURA TOSCANA TELERIE's tableware collection is 100% hemp, a fibre from one of the most efficient plants in converting carbon dioxide into oxygen. Hemp is non-allergenic and resistant to dust mites, mould, fungus and moths.

Creative upcycling

13 RICREA reclaims and gives new life to objects with irony, creating unusual collections from scraps of nautical cloth, coated PVC used for tensile structures, gazebos, truck tarpaulins, scraps of felt from the production of shoe insoles. The result is coloured petals to cover seats and outdoor vases, or roses or curls to transform poufs, armchairs and sofas with removable covers.

Micromobility

Known for its foldable helmet project that encourages micro-mobility, CLOSCA DESIGN also produces the reusable silicone bottle that can be attached to backpacks, bags, or bikes. The Closca Water app allows you to locate public water fountains where you can fill your bottle. To avoid resorting to plastic. Another innovation: certified anti-viral and anti-bacterial, washable, reusable and highly breathable masks.

Smart Home

The devices produced by DUDÙU the UV-C ultraviolet light steriliser that neutralises pathogens such as bacteria and parasites and the wireless charging mat that makes the power stations adaptable to any device and operating system.

The vertical garden

MOSS DESIGN produces plant pictures in stabilised green, 100% natural material that does not require maintenance, water, outdoor lighting or sunlight. To preserve it at its best, it is sufficient that the humidity of the environment is between 40 and 75%. The humidity value can be measured with a simple hygrometer.

Origami and bonsai

Oribon is the concept proposed by Koichiro Isogai, who uses a special sheet of water-resistant, recyclable and compostable paper to make mini-pots in which to sow equally small plants to grow at home. The material comes from stone waste; no trees were cut down to make Oribon.

Sustainable and multifunctional complements

At HOMI, RIPPOTAI presented Soundpotai, the musical pouf - speaker and seat - that transforms listening to music into a multi-sensory experience thanks to the effect of vibrations generated by sound waves. The device replicates the physical principle of resonance boxes in musical instruments. Soundpotai connects to any Bluetooth device. For every 10 Soundpotai sold Rippotai donates 1 to associations that improve the lives of deaf people with their support.

Recycling

Divided into 3 compartments, Ovetto by SOLDIDESIGN made of recycled plastic material is divided into three compartments, each of which opens to insert or extract the bag of waste to be sorted. The porthole is for inserting smaller waste
